Senator Mike Carrell represents the 28th Legislative District.
Mike is working to improve our schools, create new jobs, reduce traffic congestion, protect our environment, and keep us safe from violent predators. Mike works across party lines to get results. He wrote a landmark bill with Democrat Debbie Regala to reform our criminal justice system and put sex offenders behind bars. He also wrote the Becca Bill, which helps put troubled youth back in school.
A retired schoolteacher, Senator Carrell spent 30 years in the classroom teaching math and science at the high school and college level.
Mike served in the House for 10 years before his appointment to the Senate in 2004. Senator Carrell also serves as Deputy Republican Floor Leader.
Before his time in the legislature, Senator Carrell was a community activist. Mike was the founder and president of Washington Families. He also served as a member and the chief negotiator for the Franklin-Pierce Education Association.
Mike is a life-long resident of the Tacoma area. He graduated from Pacific Lutheran University, with a degree in education.
Mike and his wife, Charlotte, live in Lakewood. They have three sons: Matthew, Larry and Carlton, and four grandchildren.
